This 312,000 gsf, 400-room
hotel was designed for a fourteen-acre suburban site in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Zoning regulations mandated a maximum building height of floor floors.
This generated horizontal organization of the guestrooms around a central
skylit atrium. The hotel's facades are residential in scale, composed
of richly detailed architectural precast concrete, red brick, decorative
medallions, and a copper-clad roof, reflecting the tradition of the
great Georgian manor houses of the 17th and 18th century. The 18,000
gsf atrium garden is modeled after the Conservatory at Longood Gardens,
and is defined by ivory-coverd columns. These support delicate steel
trusses and a clear glass skylight. The hotel's cafe and lobby are located
within the atrium and the interior guestrooms look into the grand space.
