The current church facilities
occupy a full block in the Huntington business district. The proposed
design for the congregation's expansion brings a sense of architectural
unity to the entire block, which is currently somewhat fragmented because
of the varying age and architectural style of the three major buildings
(sanctuary, classroom and gymnasium). To achieve visual harmony, the
exterior materials of the new construction will be a combination of
brick and limestone, which will also be used to clad the existing gymnasium.
The brick would be similar in color and finish to the existing brick
of the sanctuary and classroom building.
Construction of the
new building would provide a new entrance from the municipal parking
area, a first floor lobby (south narthex)with open stairway to the second
floor Youth Center, and a new Fellowship Hall (for approximately 20
people) with a new adjoining kitchen.
A new Prayer Chapel
(for approximately 25 people) would be connected to the main sanctuary
by a "porch-like" passage along the north of the classroom
building, and would adjoin a new terraced outdoor space adjacent to
the new Fellowship Hall. The outdoor space would connect to the lower
level of the classroom building and could be used as either a play area
or garden.
