Rising above the banks
of the Brandywine Creek, this 680,00 gsf building, with a 63,000 sf
footprint, is situated on a 7.5 acre site at the north edge of downtown
Wilmington. The 12-story U-shaped plan envelops a 200-foot-high landscaped
atrium that both allows public access through a shop-lined passage to
a newly created riverside park, which connects the building to the Brandywine,
and forms the building's massive entry portico to the south. The richly
textured granite and limestone base to the east and west functions as
a visual anchor for the pedestrian, which recalls the masonry traditionally
found in the older, smaller scale buildings of downtown Wilmington,
while the cool green class upper curtain wall gives the building a distinctive
appearance on the skyline.
