This eleven-story, 435,000
gsf office building is a distinctive addition to the prestigious Franklin
Park area. The tripartite division of the facade, which is articulated
by the walls of granite, architectural precast and glass, recalls the
monumental, classical architecture of Washington's older buildings.
The base is composed of a rusticated stone wall of alternating one-
and two-story elements with stainless steel and bronze ornamentation.
The facades are accented with masonry, classical detailing, and curtain
wall bays. The two main entryways are announced by loggias and access
the three-level lobby, skylit atrium, and interior retail spaces. A
tower marks the 14th Street entrance and a smaller vertical element
distinguishes the corner at 14th and L Streets. A setback at the tenth
floor reflects the scale of the surrounding buildings, and a landscaped
roof terrace completes the design, which becomes an integral component
of the immediate region and enhances the surrounding cityscape.
