A successful school design is primarily a composition of three interior spaces, first the classrooms, second the classroom corridors, and third a "main hall" organizing these first two components.
Beginnings are important and the beginning of this design is the classroom. It is here that both students and teachers spend a major portion of their day. We have provided high clerestory lighted spaces with light baffles to diffuse direct sunlight. If the classroom is the space of the teacher, the common classroom corridor is the space of the student. This space has been made 25 feet wide and includes a central row of round skylights and storage modules flanking each classroom. These allow for separate entrance canopies to each classroom. The "Main Hall" organizes circulation from the four schools and connects to other common uses, including the gymnasium, library, dining room, administrative offices, and health services. It also serves to provide a grand interior space, memorable and identifiable for the whole school.
